The Best Kept Secret on LBI

Welcome to Surf City Yacht Club

Welcome to Surf City Yacht Club. SCYC has become a place for adults and children to enjoy a variety of social events, sailing and boating activities in a vibrant and fun atmosphere.

Our expansive bay front location provides unfettered access to the bay for all types of water related sports. The clubhouse offers an inviting atmosphere for relaxing and socializing for each and every member.

SCYC creates a sense of community that develops lifelong relationships and fond memories and generations of children have grown and thrived by participating in our summer programs.

So whether you relax through sailing, social activities, boating, swimming, or just hanging out by the bay, you’ll find that SCYC is a special place and is one of the best kept secrets on Long Beach Island.

Many of the learning and sailing opportunities we enjoy at the club are made available to us by US Sailing, a nonprofit, member supported organization. They are a valuable resource and their programs are essential to our club. US Sailing is committed to building participation at the local level, and we can help them do so.

US Sailing and SCYC are partners through the US Sailing MVP Program. While SCYC has always utilized a breadth of US Sailing resources, our decision to join the MVP Program will introduce even more valuable programs and services to our members, as well as savings on program materials and US Sailing membership fees.

Every US Sailing member contributes to the programs that we enjoy at SCYC. We are all “US Sailing” and I encourage you to join me and every US Sailing member by becoming a member and investing in a thriving future for our sport.

Youth Sailing and Swimming

We offer an 8-week sailing and swimming program for children ages 4 – 18 who are either Junior members or children/grandchildren of members.

Young children can participate in our “Bay Kids” program to offer a safe and fun introduction to sailing and swimming.

Older children and young adults can join our Waterfront program and compete in weekly competitions with the other LBI yacht clubs!

Introduction to waterfront activities for children age 4 to 7. Classes will be held MWF from 9:00am to noon. An opportunity to bring our younger members into the Waterfront program and teach them about the island, the bay, and various aquatic sports with a “hands-on” activity oriented program.
This course offers an introduction to sailing for 7- 8 year olds in a very relaxed and secure atmosphere. Students are encouraged to use their own boats but the class can accommodate up to ten children without boats.

C420 Clinic & Jr Commodore Regatta

Jun 29, 8:00am

Surf City Yacht Club

This clinic is intended for sailors 14 - 18 years of age. We will be breaking into groups depending on ability and experience. The clinic will be open for those looking to transition from Opti’s to the C420 as well as for advanced sailors looking to dial in the finer points of C420 racing. This clinic will have a cap and spots will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. The clinic will be a sailing-packed 3 day program consisting of on-the-water drills, chalk talks, video review, and a mini-regatta to wrap it up. The Clinic will be led by the University of Vermont Head Coach Caroline Patten. Although this clinic is intended to boost sailing skills in a few short days, there will still be a strong emphasis on keeping sailing fun, with the recognition that when sailors enjoy the sport, they produce better results! Please got to the SCYC web site to register. After June 15 the fees will go up.

The Friends of Southern Sailing annual fundraising dinner will be held Sunday June 5 from 5 to 7:30 at Surf City Yacht Club. Tickets are only $25 for adults and $12 for children under 12. This fundraiser and donations from our supporters provide for pretty much the entire budget for the sailing team. Please consider supporting us again, and come out June 5 and meet the team! For tickets or to make donations, you can email or see any team member or parent. Tax-deductible donations can also be sent to Friends of Southern Sailing, P.O. Box 7, Ship Bottom, NJ 08008. Friends of Southern sailing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
