Junior Programs

We offer an 8-week summer program for children ages 4 – 17. A wide range of sailing and swimming classes are available to children/grandchildren of members with community membership options available. Come join us and share the fun!

Welcome to the SCYC Waterfront!

SCYC Waterfront has a Baykids program for ages 4-8, a Sailing Program for ages 7-17 and swimming lessons for kids ages 4 and up.  Our swim team competes with local clubs on LBI.

The Waterfront staff brings a broad base of experience to our program and has US Sailing and Red Cross certification. We look forward to sharing this summer with you, your children, and grandchildren.

Junior Sailing Programs

Surf City Yacht Club offers junior sailing programs for all ages and abilities. The safety of our junior sailors is paramount. All sailors regardless of the number of years in the program are required to pass a safety swim test the first day of the program. Each sailor must wear a USCG-approved, vest type PFD while on the water.

Participants in swimming and sailing will be tested and placed by an instructor. Sailors may stay in a sailing or swimming level for more than one year depending on the student’s level of achievement. Lesson times may be subject to change due to class size.  A minimum enrollment is required to hold each course.

Junior Swimming Programs

In addition to our extensive sailing programs, SCYC also has a fun and competitive swim program for all ages.

We offer swimming lessons for all ages and abilities in both private and group lessons.

We also have a competitive and fun swim team for all boys and girls up to age 17. We compete against other yacht clubs on the island with an emphasis on team spirit, sportsmanship and positive group dynamics.

A Welcome from the Jr. Commodore

I am looking forward to this summer and having the chance to represent the Juniors of Surf City Yacht Club.  You will definitely see me in the boatyard as well as out on the water teaching and racing.  I hope to inspire others to learn how to maintain their boats and improve their skills.  I love listening to older members talk about their own childhood memories made at the club.  I hope to honor our past, enjoy the present, and influence the future.

Parent Guide to Junior Weekend Racing, Inter-clubs, and Regattas

Nothing can compare to the experience of attending a sailboat regatta. The spirit of competition and sportsmanship nurture a sailor’s body, mind and soul. Sailing in a regatta not only allows one to engage in a fun filled day of friendships but also challenges one to sharpen the mind, the hand, and the eye. Sailboat racing is much like a game of chess involving strategy, satisfaction, and self-determination.

We have put together a Parent Guide to Junior Weekend Racing, Interclubs, and Regattas providing tools to help you succeed in your next race.
