NOTICE OF RACE

ORGANIZING AUTHORITY & HOST CLUB:

CLASSES:

Lightning, Mariner

RULES:

The current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US Sailing, applicable class rules, this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions shall be in effect. In case of conflict between the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Lightning and Mariner and classes are open to any sailor who has met the registration requirements.

REGISTRATION:

Each boat must register either by completing a registration form and waiver of liability on-site at checkin on Saturday morning, September 8th. An entry is considered complete when all appropriate forms together with the appropriate entry fee have been received by the regatta committee and the boat is checked in. Please make checks payable to the Surf City Yacht Club. There will be no pre-registration or online registration but for planning purposes it is requested that you contact Regatta Chairman Rob Boetticher (contact information below) and advise of your intent to participate.

Lightning – $15

Mariner – $10

SCHEDULE:

8:00 – 9:30 AM Registration & Continental Breakfast
9:30 AM Competitors’ meeting
10:30 AM Warning Signal, first race of the day
No Warning Signal after 3:00 PM
Lunches will be not provided
4:30 PM (approx.) Beer, soda, snacks at haul-out
5:00 PM (approx.) Awards
6:30 PM Annual Regatta Social $8.00 per person

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.

COURSES:

Courses will be Windward/Leeward as described in the Sailing Instructions. Courses may be shortened at the discretion of the Race Committee.

PROTESTS:

Protests shall be filed in accordance with RRS 61. Competitors will have one half-hour from the time the RC boat docks to file a protest.

SCORING:

A total of four (4) races are planned for the Lightning and Mariner classes. One race is required to constitute a series. When three (3) or fewer races are completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. If four (4) races are completed the competitor’s worst score will be eliminated.

DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.

PRIZES:

Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams (skipper and crew) in the Lightning and Mariner classes.

The overall winner of the Lightning class will receive the Frank W. Temme Perpetual Trophy (as this is also the Manahawkin Bay Cup regatta).

The highest placing SCYC skipper in the largest fleet will receive the Paul Haskell Perpetual Trophy.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUBSEQUENT EVENTS:

This is not a qualifying regatta for any subsequent events.

DIRECTIONS:

Garden State Parkway to Exit 63
Follow Rt. 72 East over 4 bridges onto Long Beach Island
Make a left turn at first traffic light (Barnegat Ave.)
Proceed approximately one mile to 9th Street
Turn left on 9th Street. SCYC is on the end of street on bayfront.
