Notice of Race

Organizing authority & host club

Surf City Yacht Club & International Lightning Class Association (ILCA).

RULES:

The current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US Sailing, ILCA Rules, this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions shall be in effect. In case of conflict between the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

Rule 42.3(c) shall be altered to allow certain types of pumping in accordance with ILCA Rule VIII (12).

Rule 44.2 will be amended to one tack and one jibe, as opposed to two tacks and two jibes, if the spinnaker is drawing at the time of the infringement and if the spinnaker is subsequently reset, in accordance with ILCA Rule VIII (9).

Use of hand held VHF radios will be permitted for this event.

ADVERTISING:

Advertising shall be in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20 except that it shall be restricted to the hull only in accordance with ILCA Rule Article VIII (2).

ELIGIBILITY:

The regatta is open to members in good standing of the International Lightning Class Association.

REGISTRATION:

Competitors may register in advance by completing the on-line registration available on the SCYC’s website ( http://www.scyc-nj.org ) or by printing out the entry form and mailing together with a check (payable to SCYC) to SCYC, PO Box 236, Ship Bottom, NJ 08008. The Entry Fee is $150 if paid on-line or postmarked prior to July 14, 2019. After July 14th, the Entry Fee will be $175. There will also be onsite registration at SCYC in accordance with the Schedule below.

Please note that all competitors must check-in at the on-site Registration to complete their entry. On-site Registration will take place at the times noted in the “Schedule” below. An entry is considered complete when all appropriate forms have been completed and accepted by the Regatta Committee.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

The Sailing Instructions will be available at Registration.

MEASUREMENT:

Each boat shall present a valid Measurement Certificate at Registration and must display a current ILCA membership decal. Boats and equipment may be measured and inspected in accordance with ILCA By-Laws.

VENUE:

Racing will be on the Manahawkin Bay (lower end of Barnegat Bay) in an area generally to the west of the ICW.

COURSES:

Courses will be Windward/Leeward as described in the Sailing Instructions. Courses may be shortened at the discretion of the Race Committee.

SCORING:

A total of five (5) races are planned. One (1) race is required to constitute a series. A boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. This changes RRS A2.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta

PRIZES:

Trophies will be awarded to the top five teams (skipper and crew). Perpetual trophies will be awarded to highest placing finisher from CAD, runner-up from CAD, middle of the fleet and to the highest placing finisher from Met District.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUBSEQUENT EVENT:

This is a qualifying regatta for the 2019 Lightning North American Championship at Buffalo CC.

There is limited housing with SCYC members available on a first come basis. Please contact Sue Warren at (609) 709-9528 for further information.

Garden State Parkway to Exit 63.
Follow Rt. 72 East over bridge and make left at first traffic light (CVS).
Go through the next light and stay on Barnegat Ave. to 9th Street in Surf City.
Turn left onto 9th Street. Club is at end of street.
