Notice of Race
1.1. This event will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescription of the United States Sailing Association, the rules and by – laws of the C420 Association and this Notice of Race, except as the Sailing Instruction changes any of these.
2.1. This regatta will be sailed in Manahawkin Bay northwest of Surf City Yacht Club.
3.1. This regatta is open to all boats of the C420 class.
3.2. The Skipper and Crew shall not have reached their 22nd birthday before December 31, 2019.
3.3. NJYRA recommends that competitors are members of the C420 class.
4. GREEN REGATTA
4.1. This regatta is a Sailors for the Sea “Clean Regatta.” As such, all competitors are encouraged to use non-single use water bottles and recycle all appropriate items. Competitors are reminded of RRS Rule 55, which states that competitors “shall not intentionally put trash in the water.”
5.1. Each competitor will be responsible for their boat being in compliance with the C420 class rules and specifications.
6.1. The entry fee for all classes is $125 per boat. The entry fee includes tee shirt, breakfast and a light snack before the awards ceremony. No lunch will be provided. Sailor must bring their own lunch and water bottles.

8. ADVANCE REGISTRATION
8.1. Competitors shall register in advance by going online at http://scyc-nj.org/ Early entry deadline is July 30, 2019 after which a late fee of $25 applies. Online registration will be closed on August 10th . After August 10th sailors can still register in person on August 12th between 8:00 AM & 9:30 AM at the Surf City Yacht Club.
9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
9.1. The Sailing Instructions (SIs) will be available at registration on the official notice board located in the main room on the first floor of SCYC and be posted to the SCYC website at http://scyc-nj.org/. As a green regatta the Sailing Instructions will not be printed. This modifies RRS 90.2.
10.1. The Low Point Scoring System (Appendix A) shall be used. RRS Rule A2 is modified as follows. A total of seven (7) races are planned. One (1) race is required to constitute a series. When five (5) or fewer races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When six (6) or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
11.1. Coaches may be asked to register at the event and will be permitted to coach from the water but not during racing.
12. ARRIVAL AND LAUNCHING
12.1. SCYC will accommodate C420 trailers. Boats can be launched via hoist or ramp. A limited amount of space is available for large coach boat or spectator boat trailers. Offsite trailer storage at a nearby location can be arranged. Boats and trailers can be dropped off no earlier than the morning of August 10th .
13. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
13.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority and the Surf City Yacht Club will not accept any liability for material damage to boats or personal property or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.
14.1. Per US Sailing Regulation, no contestant shall use, either on or off the water; marijuana or any other controlled substance or alcoholic beverages. This regulation is in effect from date and time of arrival through date and time of departure from the locale. All competitors are expected to maintain the highest level of conduct throughout the entire event. When the Race Committee, from its own observation or a report received from any source believes that a competitor may have committed a breach of a rule, good manners, or sportsmanship, or may have brought the sport into disrepute, it may call a hearing. After a proper hearing, in accordance with RRS Appendix M5, the penalty may range from a reprimand to dismissal from the regatta and additional action may be taken under RRS Rule 69.
15.1. Trophies will be awarded to the first five boats (skipper and crew).The winning team will receive the perpetual trophy for the NJYRA C420 NJ State Championship. This trophy must be returned to NJYRA in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Gift.
