Register to become a US Sailing MVP
Many of the learning and sailing opportunities we enjoy at the club are made available to us by US Sailing, a nonprofit, member supported organization. They are a valuable resource and their programs are essential to our club. US Sailing is committed to building participation at the local level, and we can help them do so.
US Sailing and SCYC are partners through the US Sailing MVP Program. While SCYC has always utilized a breadth of US Sailing resources, our decision to join the MVP Program will introduce even more valuable programs and services to our members, as well as savings on program materials and US Sailing membership fees.
Every US Sailing member contributes to the programs that we enjoy at SCYC. We are all “US Sailing” and I encourage you to join me and every US Sailing member by becoming a member and investing in a thriving future for our sport.
Surf City Yacht Club offers youth sailing programs for all ages and abilities. The safety of our youth sailors is paramount. All sailors regardless of the number of years in the program are required to pass a safety swim test the first day of the program. Each sailor must wear a USCG-approved, vest type PFD while on the water.
Participants in swimming and sailing will be tested and placed by an instructor. Sailors may stay in a sailing or swimming level for more than one year depending on the student’s level of achievement. Lesson times may be subject to change due to class size. A minimum enrollment is required to hold each course.Learn About Our Youth Sailing Programs
Adult Sailing Lessons for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Sailors
This course offers adult sailing lessons to club members on four consecutive Fridays, starting July 8th. The purpose of the course is to teach adult members (18 and older) how to sail his or her own boat if available, or learn to sail on a 19′ Mariner.
Depending on interest Sunfish lessons may be offered.
The goal is to instruct adults how to sail a boat and to feel comfortable as a skipper and crew. Participants will learn why and how a boat sails, the different points of sailing, sail adjustments, various maneuvers, how to get out to the bay and how to safely dock the boat. The class is taught by experienced, volunteer SCYC sailors. Enrollment is limited. Register in person at SCYC.
