2017 C420 NJ State Championship

Notice of Race
North Jersey Yacht Racing Association hereby gives a Notice of Race for the 2017 New Jersey State C420 Championship to be held at Surf City Yacht Club on July 13 & 14, 2017.
1.1. This event will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescription of the United States Sailing Association, the rules and by – laws of the C420 Association and this Notice of Race, except as the Sailing Instruction changes any of these.
2.1. This regatta will be sailed in the Barnegat Bay in the general area north of the Manahawkin Bridge and west of the Surf City Yacht Club (SCYC).
3.1. This regatta is open to all boats of the C420 class.
3.2. The Skipper and Crew shall not have reached their 22nd birthday before December 31, 2017.
3.3. NJYRA recommends that competitors are members of the C420 class.
4. GREEN REGATTA
4.1. This regatta is a Sailor for the Sea “Clean Regatta.” As such, all competitors are encouraged to use non-single use water bottles and recycle all appropriate items. Competitors are reminded of RRS Rule 55, which states that competitors “shall not intentionally put trash in the water.”
5.1. Each competitor will be responsible for their boat being in compliance with the C420 class rules and specifications.
6.1. The entry fee is $125 per boat. The entry fee includes tee shirt, on the water lunch and dinner.

No warning signal will be made after 1600hrs on July 13th or 14th.
8. ADVANCE REGISTRATION
8.1. Competitors shall register in advance by going online at scyc-nj.org. Entry deadline is July 5, 2017 after which a late fee of $25 applies. On line registration will be closed on Monday July 10th. After July 10th sailors can register in person on July 13th between 900hrs & 1030hrs.
9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
9.1. The Sailing Instructions (SIs) will be available at registration.
10.1. The Low Point Scoring System (Appendix A) shall be used. RRS Rule A2 is modified as follows. A total of seven (7) races are planned. One (1) race is required to constitute a series. When fewer than five (5) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When six (6) or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
11.1. Coaches may be asked to register at the event and will be permitted to coach from the water but not during racing.
12. ARRIVAL AND LAUNCHING
12.1. SCYC will accommodate c420 trailers. Boats can be launched via hoist or ramp. A limited amount of space is available for large coach boat or spectator boat trailers. Offsite trailer storage at a nearby location can be arranged. Boats and trailers can be dropped off no earlier than the morning of July 12th.
13. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
13.1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority and Surf City Yacht Club will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.
14.1. Per US Sailing Regulation no contestant shall use, either on or off the water; marijuana or any other controlled substance or alcoholic beverages. This
regulation is in effect from date and time of arrival through date and time of departure from the locale. All competitors are expected to maintain the highest level of conduct throughout the entire event. When the Race Committee, from its own observation or a report received from any source believes that a competitor may have committed a breach of a rule, good manners, or sportsmanship, or may have brought the sport into disrepute, it may call a hearing. After a proper hearing, in accordance with RRS Appendix M5, the penalty may range from a reprimand to dismissal from the regatta and additional action may be taken under RRS Rule 69.
15.1. Trophies will be awarded to the first 5 boats (skipper and crew). The top finishing skipper and crew will receive the perpetual trophy for the C420 NJ State Championship. The skipper and crew must be NJ residents or members of a NJ Yacht club. This trophy must be returned in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Gift.

16.2. Directions to SCYC are as follows. Garden State Parkway to Exit 63. Follow Rt. 72 East over the bridge on to Long Beach Island and make left at first
traffic light (CVS). Go through the next light and stay on Barnegat Ave. to 9th Street in Surf City. Turn left onto 9th Street. Club is at end of street.
